LETTER OF OFRMAL NOTICE TO THE OFFICE OF THE MINISTRY OF INTERIOR (applications through marriage)
Applications by marriage to an Italian Citizen are submitted through the local Italian consulate but are processed by the office of the Ministry of Interior in Rome.
Since there is just one office that processes applications submitted through all Italian consulates worldwide, the law establishes that the office of the Ministry has a 720 days timeframe to accept or deny the application.
Generally, the 720 days time frame is fully used by the office of the Ministry which in most cases provides an answers right before such deadline expires. The applicant is not entitled to any update before such deadline.
Nevertheless, due to the large number of applications, it is quite common that, in some cases, no answer is given even after the deadline, in which case the applicant has the right to file a formal complaint.
